Can Design Thinking Become a Method of Informing the Practice of Photography?
Design is recognised as the third way that synthesises art and science (technology). Known as the human-centred approach — design thinking has evolved from a creative process for design innovation into an effective tool for business, education and management.
Photography is one form of application in visual communication and the arts. It is a valuable instrument in visual research — which informs design thinking’s core activities. But what happens if this interaction is reversed?
This project argues for design thinking to be considered a valid method of informing contemporary photography practice. It intersects design thinking principles with existing photography practices; presents a self-qualifying case study; and introduces a new analogy in which to analyse photography projects.
